All Things American
Information and insights into the American language and culture
Tuesday, November 22, 2011
I had the pleasure today of giving a lecture on American culture to approximately twenty visitors from China from the U.S.-China Business and Cultural Exchange, Inc. at Kaplan University in Rockville, MD. I provided an overview and background on American history, cultural and ethnic influences from the founding of America up to and including the significant changes of "60s revolution". I also offfered insights into current American business practices and cultural values. The attendees were eager to learn about America and posed some excellent questions. These types of exchanges are very helpful in terms of increasing mutual understanding.

Why I started All Things American
I have had the good fortune to live in different countries and cultures while I was with the U.S. government having spent over ten years in Asia and three years in France. In addition I studied Chinese and French language and area studies at the Department of State Foreign Service Institute. What made those experiences so rewarding and interesting was gaining an understanding of the languages and cultures. I have always enjoyed learning about other cultures and teaching others about our American culture and language. I thought that by starting this blog I would offer people, especially from Asia, an opportunity to ask questions and learn about American language and culture. I plan to post articles and links to materials that will help foster a better understanding of America and its unique culture. Richard C. LaMagna
